CAKE!
I just realized that I never posted about my last baking project. You’re gonna laugh when you find out how long ago it was, and NO I have NOT done ANYTHING since. I’m busy, okay?
Anyway, we had a little banquets party on Cinco de Mayo and this was the perfect opportunity to try my hand at Marshmallow Fondont (MMF). It is waaaaaay more tasty than regular fondant. I made it myself and decorated a strawberry cake. I made the cake from a box, but, come on, for a first time with fondant at all! That fondant took all freakin’ day. The buttercream was absolutely mouthwateringly delicious. Really. From the same pro who I learned the MMF from.
I think it turned out okay. A little shiny. I think that came from the gel food coloring. That’s what the expert I was following recommended I use. So maybe it was just the amount I used to make it so bright? I dunno. I’ll try it again sometime.
The saddest part is that, no, none of it is just a covered cake with one piece of fondant. The top layer was originally, but then the top layer turned out too big. It was only slightly smaller than the bottom. That was my stupid fault. But I was determined to make it beautiful. So since the fondant was already on and there was no turning back, I decided to veeeeery careful take the top layer off, cut the sides off to make a square, and use my leftover different colors on the sides. Then I applied the “Olé!” and decided at the last minute to add a little chili pepper to the front.
I’m proud of it!
Props to Peggy Weaver. I read all of her Q & A’s before starting and used her recipes for MMF and buttercream. http://whatscookingamerica.net/PegW/Fondant.htm
